Content Policy

Civilized Discussion

We have developed our content policy over time, and our motive is to encourage and maintain civil discussion.

A civilized discussion is a bit tricky to define, kind of like obscenity it can often be a matter of “I know it when I see it”. A rule of thumb relevant in the online case is “Would this be acceptable to say to someone in person?”.

Comments

The guiding vision here is that you should take things seriously, but not too seriously :) It's fine to rant, vent, and meme; not everything needs to be sophisticated. Not everything needs to be positive either. For example, leaving a negative review or feedback. That being said, comments must be civil, and maintaining civility will take precedence over all else. This will be the case for the early days in particular.

To this end, comments that contain one or more of the following themes will be put behind a warning:

  • Gore
  • Extreme Violence
  • Sexual Themes
  • Misinformation
  • Extreme Obscenity

Comments that contain one or more of the following are not allowed and will be removed:

  • Spam/Scam
  • Nudity
  • Bot
  • Abuse/Harassment
  • Hate
  • Illegal Content

Websites

The guiding vision here is that you should be able to browse a Netvyne feed in front of your mother without sweating. On a more serious note, we will not tolerate inappropriate content.

To this end, websites that contain one or more of the following themes will be displayed behind a warning:

  • Paywall
  • Gore
  • Extreme Violence
  • Sexual Themes
  • Misinformation
  • Extreme Obscenity

Websites that contain one or more of the following themes will not be aggregated:

  • Spam/Scam
  • Nudity
  • Invalid/Unreachable
  • Abuse/Harassment
  • Illegal Content

Bots

This is not a bot-friendly platform; comments from bots will be removed. Moving forward, we will be implementing safeguards that prevent automated commenting/voting/sharing on the site. It is fundamentally disingenuous to use a channel intended for humans in this way, regardless of the perceived value or harmlessness of what the bot is doing.

Moderation

The moderation process uses the ruleset mentioned above. Moderation consists of a combination of automated, semi-automated, and manual reviews of content. Automatic content moderation is not a perfected technology at this time, and can make errors from time to time so we have a moderation team as well. In the process, we collect training points so that our automatic content moderation can be improved.

Reporting & Escalation

Users can flag both websites and comments if they believe that it violates our content policy, or does not align with our overall goal of civilized discussion. There is a flag button on every platform; alternatively you can send us an email (hello@netvyne.com). You can also email this address if you find that some content has been moderated incorrectly, and I (Khalil) will review it.
